The CHEST Foundation’s 12th Annual Making a Difference Awards Ceremony and Presentation
Located on the scenic waterfront of the Vancouver Convention Center, The CHEST Foundation’s 12th Annual Making a Difference Awards Ceremony and Presentation promises to be a memorable evening. Presentation of the D. Robert McCaffree, MD, Master FCCP Humanitarian Awards will be made. A cocktail hour, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, will be followed by the dinner, program, and awards from 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm.
Making a Difference Society members at the $1,000 annual gift level are eligible for two complimentary tickets, while annual donors at the $500 level are eligible one complimentary ticket. Please contact Teri Ruiz for details about complimentary tickets.

You are invited to join ACCP member volunteers and Ambassadors Group members to participate in giving the Lung Lessonssm Program to elementary students at the Laura Secord Elementary School in Vancouver. This interactive educational event will begin with a training session and breakfast. At 9:30 am, volunteers will travel to the school to present information on the value of lung health and the dangers of smoking and facts on asthma.

The D. Robert McCaffree, MD, Master FCCP Humanitarian Awards will be conferred at The CHEST Foundation’s 12th Annual Making a Difference Awards Ceremony and Presentation. Awards granted will be at two levels—$5,000 and $15,000—to nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations throughout the world where ACCP members volunteer their time and medical expertise. In addition, a $5,000 Ambassadors Group Humanitarian Award will be granted.
Initiated in 2000, the Distinguished Scholar Program enables ACCP members who propose outstanding projects in cardiopulmonary and critical care medicine to extend their impact in clinical practice. Through the generous support of Eli Lilly and Company and GlaxoSmithKline, The CHEST Foundation’s Distinguished Scholar Program makes an impact on patient care in critical care, thrombosis, and respiratory health.
The Third Eli Lilly and Company Distinguished Scholar in Critical Care Medicine, Steven Q. Simpson, MD, FCCP, has completed the first year of his project: "A Statewide Program To Effect the Timely Diagnosis and Treatment of Severe Sepsis: Application of Evidence-Based Principles in Rural and Urban Settings." Dr. Simpson is an Associate Professor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, in Kansas City, MO. He will present an update of his project at the Critical Care Institute Open Meeting on Monday, November 1, 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
Sidney S. Braman, MD, FCCP, the Second GlaxoSmithKline Distinguished Scholar in Respiratory Health, has completed the third year of his project: "The ACCP Chronic Care Model for COPD and Its Comorbidities: An Initiative for Primary Care Physicians and Other Health-care Providers To Improve the Quality of Life and Health Outcomes for Patients With COPD." Dr. Braman is the Division Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Warren Albert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, RI. He will present an update on his project at the Respiratory Care NetWork Open Meeting on Monday, November 1, 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm. The Third GlaxoSmithKline Distinguished Scholar in Respiratory Health will be announced during the CHEST 2010 Opening Ceremony on Sunday, October 31.
Completing the second year as the Second GlaxoSmithKline Distinguished Scholar in Thrombosis is Henry I. Bussey, PharmD, FCCP, with his project: "A Superior Method of Oral Anticoagulation Management to Substantially Reduce Event Rates, Improve Quality of Life, and Reduce Health-care Costs." Dr. Bussey is Professor in the Division of Pharmacotherapy, College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He is also president of Genesis Clinical Research, San Antonio, TX. Dr. Bussey will present an update on his project at the Pulmonary Vascular Disease NetWork Open Meeting on Tuesday, November 2, 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
