Welcome from the President

On behalf of the CHEST 2010 Program Committee and the ACCP leadership and staff, I invite you to attend and participate in CHEST 2010 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Under the leadership of Co-Chairs Anne E. O’Donnell, MD, FCCP, and Robert D. Levy, MD, FCCP, the ACCP NetWorks and members-at-large have developed a clinically focused, world-class program in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine to offer essential updates on patient care and practice management strategies.

I am pleased that the focus of many sessions is on globally relevant health topics. The theme of my presidency has been, “Care Locally. Reach Globally.” Your attendance at CHEST 2010 will empower you to follow this lead by increasing your knowledge and helping you treat a diverse patient population. Sessions addressing global health issues will begin Sunday, October 31, and will continue throughout the week. An international faculty will include renowned experts from around the world. Premier physicians have already committed to present at CHEST 2010.

In support of the global focus, the ACCP is participating in 2010: The Year of the Lung, a collaborative initiative to raise awareness of and advocate for lung health throughout the world. This campaign will be highlighted and supported during CHEST 2010, through “The Year of the Lung” sessions that will feature prevention and intervention strategies related to tobacco use, COPD, and lung cancer. This is truly a unique opportunity to expand your clinical skills to include both local and global patient care.

Exciting changes and additions have been made to the CHEST 2010 format to increase its educational impact. Please take note of these meeting enhancements:

  • A new meeting start day with more education. General sessions will begin Sunday, October 31, 1 day sooner than previous years, to offer 5 days of clinical instruction.
  • Clinical care-focused tracks. Intensive study will be offered in pulmonary arterial hypertension, interventional pulmonology, COPD, and advanced ultrasonography on Thursday, November 4, so you can immerse yourself in a focused clinical area.
  • Postgraduate multipass courses. Registration for a postgraduate course will allow you a multipass to sessions at any postgraduate course and access to all the electronic course materials. You can custom build a postgraduate course day suited to your education needs.

The Clinical Resource Center will again showcase diagnostic and treatment solutions, with hands-on opportunities and special presentations to complement your learning. Don’t miss opportunities and special features within the Clinical Resource Center, including Experience ACCP, original
